With its abundance of fresh seafood, awareness of responsible farming methods, and nearby well-known wineries, Santa Barbara has many restaurants, many of which are highly rated. In 2008, the Santa Barbara Dining Guide listed 674 separate restaurants in the region. Here is our list of recommended places to eat while in Santa Barbara. We have tried each one of these personally and love them. Most of Santa Barbara's restaurants are located downtown on or just off State St.
Mexican:
Rudy's - 811 State St. (805) 564-8677 - a great tacqueria located in the Paseo Nuevo which is downtown. My mom actually went to school w/ Rudy!
El Rincon - 4141 State St #F1 - Located in the upper part of Santa Barbara, El Rincon offers a great place for authentic Mexican such as menudo and chorizo.
La Playa Azul Cafe - 914 Santa Barbara St (805) 966-2860 - Just a short walk from State St., this gem offers great margaritas and outdoor seating.
Cava - 1212 Coast Village Rd Montecito, CA 93108 (805) 969-8500 - If you happen to venture into Montecito, the place where Rob Lowe & Oprah hang out, then you have to stop in this place.
Italian:
Palazzio's - 1026 State Street (805) 564-1985 - One of our favorite lunch spots but also a great place for family style dinner with large Italian style portions. They are known for their garlic balls, so eat with caution.
Healthy:
Soujourner - 134 E Canon Perdido Street (805) 965-7922 - Also located just off State St., this "vegetarian" joint is known for their delicious salads and blended drinks. Britt & I stop here for lunch EVERYDAY when in Santa Barbara, it's that good.
Sushi:
Arigato Sushi - 1225 State St. (805) 965-6074 - A great hip place for a variety of sushi.
Mediterranean:
Cafe Zaytoon - 209 E Canon Perdido St Santa Barbara, CA 93101 (805) 963-1293 - It was only fitting that we choose this place since it reminds us of our favorite place in SF. This fairly new establishment has great outdoor seating w/ tables that serve as fire pits! You can even try a Hookah.
Breakfast/Brunch:
Tupelo Junction Cafe - 1218 State St (805) 899-3100 - Hearty breakfasts is the only way to describe this place. It's downtown and worth the visit.
